WONDERDOGS Take Home A Fast Friend The Racing Greyhound
Racing Greyhounds, the best cared for dogs in the world, are housed in climate controlled buildings. Each building contains kennels located along the perimeter walls, consisting of an upper and lower unit, similar to bunk beds, for the greyhounds
Owners and Trainers maintain a rigorous daily schedule beginning around 6am with interaction, exercise, feeding and individual care, continuing at set intervals until late evening
Greyhounds are fed a well balanced daily diet, consisting of vitamins,grains,4-D meat, as used in commercial pet foods, and stews containing a variety of vegetables, and often fish, chicken, barley and macaroni
Greyhounds require a lot of rest. They sleep in individual kennels for four to six hour intervals around their intensive daily routine
The People who work in today's Greyhound Industry are involved with the sport because they love these special dogs and enjoy working with them
Kennel Operators and trainers maintain a high level of care for their animals for two reasons. First and foremost, good business sense. Racing Greyhounds are expensive animals and represent a substantial investment for their owners. Anything less than the finest care will make it impossible for the impressive dogs to reach their full potential as competitors
The greyhound industry, through the American Greyhound Council (AGC), has established a number of programs to make sure that racing greyhounds receive the high quality care they deserve at every stage of their lives
All adopted greyhounds are spayed or neutered to avoid the birth of unwanted pups
Who Should Adopt A Greyhound?
Basically, anyone who can provide a loving home to the greyhound will be ideal. The caring of a greyhound will be similar to the care of other dogs. The greyhounds will thrive in a home where they are pet frequently, and are in continuous contact with family members. Since they have lived a life of racing, the dogs will enjoy outdoor exercise and play. Also, the greyhounds react well with children, so a home with kids will be an enjoyable residence for the dog. Anyone adopting a greyhound must realize that the dog will not be immediately housebroken, but greyhounds will be trained rather quickly and easily.
